Sculpture Pet Urn: Italian Alabaster Companion Urn

This beautiful artistic pet urn is made of Italian alabaster with a purpleheart lid. As with wood, alabaster is turned on a lathe. Some pieces may start off as 60 to 80 pound blocks of raw stone, that are eventually sculpted away until what remains is a five-pound urn. Alabaster or calcium sulfate, a crystalline form of gypsum, is one of the first three sedimentary formations. It forms right near limestone and potash, very close to the earth's surface. It is found in many places throughout the world: Nova Scotia, upper New York, Utah, Colorado, Egypt and Italy, to name a few places. Each stone has its own unique characteristics of color and veining. The pieces are turned to a thin wall thickness, which accentuates the natural translucency and veining of the stone, creating a unique and breath-taking tribute.
